As we head into Father’s Day this weekend, one of the most popular gifts is a bottle of premium whisky that can be enjoyed long after the day itself. Not only does it taste good to the astute drinker, but the presentation from bottle to packaging also goes a long way in gifting something that can be artistic, memorable and on display for years. However, with such a wide selection out there, many don’t know where to start. To assist, here is a selection of recently-launched expressions perfect for the discerning dad this Father’s Day. There’s also a unique tasting set for those looking for something a bit special on a reasonable budget.
A new expression from Jura aged in both American ex-bourbon barrels and American virgin oak. It’s got a fun, spicy character, and is part of the new Aged Vintage series from the distillery. It’s tasty and it’s so recent and Tide has been released so recently that even the most hawkish of collectors are unlikely to have it

A relatively limited outturn, Kilchoman is an Islay distillery that people love. It’s really heavily peated, so full of smoky notes, and STR casks are especially interesting (ex-red wine casks that have been shaved, toasted and re-charred to max out flavor). Kilchoman is one of the smaller distilleries on Islay, even though the team recently doubled the production space, and is all family-owned and run.

This bottle celebrates the work of Scottish photographer Lindsay Robertson. The packaging is very elegant and the whisky is delicious. A blended Scotch, rather than a single malt, it’s a good mix of robust fruit and creamy grain. Plus, it definitely looks the part as a gift.

The ultimate gift for a whisky fan – and highly collectable. The seventh edition in the Macallan’s Masters of Photography release celebrates the brand’s new distillery, and features the work of six Magnum photographers. The whisky comes from eight casks, including a ‘spicy’ cask, a classic cask, a European red wine cask, a first fill American barrel and a cask ‘of age’.
