The Best Cities, Ranked by Age Group

Which city is the best fit for you? That may depend on your age.

A recent study published by Homes.com ranked the 50 largest metropolitan areas in the United States according to how well they met the needs of baby boomers (ages 55 to 74), members of Generation X (35 to 54) and millennials (20 to 34).

One factor considered was the percentage of people in each age group living in a given area: The larger the share, the higher an area was ranked for that particular generation.

Other criteria included tax-friendliness in retirement and availability of health care for baby boomers. The quality of local schools and the number of management jobs per 100,000 people drove up city rankings for Generation X. And cities with lower median home prices and more entry-level jobs available per 100,000 residents were considered better suited to millennials.
